When it comes to success, optimism is everything. When we are able to see everything in a positive light, positive things happen in our lives. However, some people are not very optimistic. In fact, some people see everything in a negative light. This is known as a pessimistic attitude.
The problem with a pessimistic attitude is the fact that, more often than not, it provides people with limited lives and does not allow them to live up to their full potential.
When it comes to our life and the attitude we have, we are in the driver’s seat. Therefore, if there is something we would like to change, we are in control so the directional change is up to us.
If you feel like there is a lot of negative things going on in your life and you don’t know why, pessimism may be to blame.
One important thing to keep in mind is the fact that there is more than one type of pessimism. Check out these examples…
• The Personalizer
This type of pessimism involves a person believing that everything that goes wrong in life is their fault in one way or another. It may be true that the majority of what happens in our lives is a result of our actions, however some things are out of our control. Take the stock market for example, you could do handstands or jump up and down on one foot and it wouldn’t have a single impact on it.
This type of pessimism packs another punch as well. On top of feeling like everything is your fault, those with this type of pessimism have a hard time accepting credit for the good things they do. Rather than take credit when it is due, they will think it was all luck.
• The Doomer
The doomer is a type of pessimist that literally dooms themselves to their circumstances for the rest of their life. For example, statements such as “I will never be able to do this” or “Things will never get better” are commonly made by doomers.
The power of spoken word is more powerful than most people realize. By saying things like the above examples you can literally cause it to happen. On the other hand, if you think positively and believe a better life is around the corner, the life you want will one day be yours.
• The Imploder
This type of pessimist takes one small thing and turns it into something that ruins their entire day. For example, a person is five minutes late for work and allows it to impact their attitude enough that they end up losing their job.
Learning to let the small things go is vital when it comes to avoiding this type of pessimism and therefore vital when it comes to living a successful and happy life.
Hopefully you are able to see the world in a positive way and you don’t suffer from any of the above forms of pessimism. However, if you feel as if you might have a pessimistic attitude, it can be changed. Practice makes perfect, the more you look for the positive side of things the more you will find them and the more pleasant the world will seem to you.
