Finding what we are passionate about in life is extremely important. This is due to the fact that most of the things we are passionate about will likely relate to our true purpose in life and that is why we will be passionate about it in the first place.
Many people had dreams for their life at one point. Maybe they desired to travel the world or be an author or any other example you can think of. However, people often lose sight of these dreams and find themselves working in a traditional nine to five job that does not spark their passion in the least bit.
When you ask them what their reason for doing this is, you will get the same response almost every time, “It pays the bills”. While paying the bills is important, especially when you have a family to take care of, so is finding your passion in life.
The scary part about finding a passion is that it may require certain people to give up their nine to five jobs. However, there is almost certainly a way that you can still take care of yourself, and your family, while doing what you are passionate about at the same time.
Once you are able to let go of the fear of the unknown and start living your life based off of your passion and not what your bills add up to, you will be able to start understanding what true happiness is.
I have a friend who spent many years working in dead end jobs. He used to tell me all that time that he felt like he was wasting his life. He said that there was no passion in the work he was doing and he didn’t feel like he was ever going to leave a mark on the world.
He eventually was presented an opportunity to do something that would matter. This opportunity involved writing articles and self-help material that is much like what you are reading here.
He no longer hated going to work every day because he knew what he was doing made a difference. The idea that he could be helping people with their problems provided him with a sense of passion that he had never felt before.
You too can experience this. How would you like to feel as if you are fulfilling a purpose and making a difference in the world? It is entirely possible, you just have to discover your passion in life.
One important thing to remember about passions and life purposes is the fact that they will differ from person to person. You cannot study someone else or ask them what your passions are. The only one that can determine that is you. However, you can ask people for advice about what they may think you are good at as this may open your mind to new ideas.
Finding a passion can be a difficult task at times. To get you off to a good start, I will provide you with a few questions to ask yourself:
•What are you good at?
Your passion will usually involve things that you are good at. For example, if you are talented with instruments your passion may possibly be playing in a band or being a music instructor. While your passion may not always be something you are good at, it is definitely a good place to start.
•What makes you happy?
When searching for a passion it is highly important that you think about what makes you happy in life. This is especially true if you are looking for a passion within a work environment. The average person spends about a third of their day at work so they might as well spend that time doing something that makes them feel good.
•Would you do it without being paid?
If you think you may have found your passion but you are still a little unsure, ask yourself this simple question. Would you do it without being paid? If your answer is no, I’m sorry but that is not your passion. A true passion is something that you do because you want to, not because there is a paycheck that comes with it. Money is always a bonus but it should not be a necessity!
There is no need to go through life feeling like there is something else that you are supposed to do. As mentioned earlier, finding your passion may be a scary venture in the beginning but the payoff in the end will be incomparable to anything else you have ever experienced in your life!
