A lot of people think that the quickest way to get from point a to point be is to head in a straight line without taking any breaks. While this is a pretty logical way of thinking, it may not necessarily be the best way to go about things, especially when it comes to improving life.

While heading in a straight line is important, going without the occasional break can cause a lot of issues. As humans, there is only so long we can go without treating ourselves to some much needed rest and relaxation.

I see people all of the time who feel bad when they relax. When I ask them why they are so hard on themselves, the reply is often something along the lines of “I have a lot of work to do” or “I feel lazy when I’m not working”.

Believe it or not, taking occasional breaks can help you got a lot more done. When we allow ourselves to have time to relax, we improve our productivity and also do a better job at the things we do.

Check out these reasons why taking small breaks can make things easier and help you get more done…

1. Less Stress

When we overwork ourselves, we tend to become stressed out. Needless to say, being stressed out does not improve productivity. It actually does the complete opposite. When under high levels of stress, people tend to have a hard time making wise decisions. On top of that, stress tends to cause people to become short tempered and even irrational.

Allowing yourself to take a break every now and then will lower your stress levels which will help you avoid a lot of the negative side-effects that stress tends to bring into our lives.

2. It Makes Things Seem More Manageable

Have you ever had to pull an all-nighter before with a project that had a fast-approaching deadline? I’m sure you have experienced this at least once in your life. Maybe it was for a school assignment or possibly even something for work. No matter what the reason for doing it was, it was surely a nightmare.

Instead of waiting until the last minute to do something, start earlier and take breaks when you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed. Doing this will help you save yourself a whole lot of headaches and will even improve the quality of your work.

When something is enjoyable to do, it becomes much more likely that we will see it through to the finish and will also help us take our time and do things correctly. This is absolutely essential when it comes to achieving goals that we set for ourselves, especially when it comes to our long-term goals that will take a lot of time to complete.

3. It Gives Us Time To Appreciate Our Progress

It’s hard to recognize what we have done if we don’t ever have the time to sit back and appreciate our hard work. Treat yourself to a few minutes of time to think about the progress you have made so far toward whatever it is that you are trying to achieve. Trust me, this can make a large difference in the amount of motivation and drive that you have.
