Let’s face it, life can become quite comfortable inside of our comfort zones. However, the possibilities in life are endless. You have the power to make you life turn out anyway that you desire. However, much of accomplishing this will require you to step outside of that oh so comfortable comfort zone.
Living life inside of a comfort zone causes us to miss out on many of the opportunities and blessings that life has to offer us. The same comfort zone often causes us to settle for our life the way it is, no matter what the circumstances are. This is likely due to the fact that change can be scary. We can get used to the way things are and even though we may know that things could and should be better, our fear of change keeps us glued in place.
When you really think about though, change is really nothing new to me, you, or anyone else. Change has happened ever since we were born. I can’t think of a change scarier than going from the protection of your mother’s womb to a world full of bright light, unknown faces and loud noises. If you were able to embrace this dramatic change in life, especially as an infant, there really is not limit to how far out of your comfort zone you can go if you just try.
I can completely understand how the fear of the unknown as well as change can be frightening, so much so that it deters us from bettering our lives. I myself used to be worrisome when it came to writing material for the purpose of trying to help others with their lives.
I was worried that people may not like my content and let’s be honest, with every new venture there is a risk of failure. However I did not let this fear get in my way. I used my courage and my strength to step outside of my comfort zone and began something new. This ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made with my life.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone offered me new comfort in life. I now have the opportunity to help others which makes every day of my life one that is blessed. If I would have never stepped outside of my comfort zone I would have never experienced the beautiful life that I have now.
Making changes in life may be scary but you have done it many times before in life. Think of your first day at a new school. It was absolutely terrifying right? While you may have been fearful, you still went, and eventually made plenty of friends. Some of these friends are probably still in your life now and you have probably shared some of the best experiences in life together. This is yet another example of opportunities that would have been missed if fears were not faced.
If you easily become overwhelmed by fear, facing it is probably easier said than done. However there are some things that you can do to build your fear tolerance and give you the power you need to step outside of your comfort zone.
The following are a few examples:
• Stop comparing yourself to others
One of the biggest contributors to people being afraid of making changes in their life is the fact that they compare themselves to others. For example, they may think if they begin a new business venture it will not be as successful as someone else’s. Thoughts like these are toxic and will never do you any good. The power of belief is amazing. If you believe in yourself you can and will accomplish anything you set your mind to!
• Create a detailed plan
Creating a detailed plan for whatever changes it is that you would like to make in life will also make it much easier for you to step out of your comfort zone. When every detail is listed on paper, both good and bad, it is easy to weigh out the pros and cons and decide if it is a risk worth taking. Remember to be very detailed with you plan as the more detailed it is the more fear it will relieve.
• Conquer some of your smaller fears
Life changes can produce fear that is incomparable to any other. To make you better prepared to deal with this you may want to consider facing some of your smaller fears and conquering them. Every fear you conquer will make you stronger and stronger. Eventually you will be able to look even the biggest fears in the face, such as life changes, and conquer them with ease!
You do not have the waste the potential that you life has to offer trapped inside of a comfort zone. Live a life that you can look back on and say, wow that was an incredible ride! Sure, change may at times be scary and it may at times be risky. However, change can also be the best thing that has ever happened to you!
