Have you ever tried to stick to a difficult project that your hard work went unnoticed on? I’m sure you have and I’m also sure that you are aware of the fact that it can quickly drain your motivation to continue.

As human beings, we like our effort to be noticed. Without acknowledgement, our effort can begin to seem almost pointless. There is nothing wrong with this, it’s in our nature.

Our need for our effort to be noticed can either help us stay motivated or it can suck the motivation right out of us, depending on how we approach the situation.

We can either wait for acknowledgement from other people, and I’m sure we all know how that usually turns out or we can give ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done. In all honesty, the best route to take is usually the one that doesn’t involve depending on other people to let us know we did a good job.

Often, even when the best work is done, it can go unnoticed. More often than not, this is not done intentionally but is rather the result of other people being busy just like we are.

Therefore, the best thing to do when you feel your motivation slipping away may not be to seek the approval of others for our hard work but rather to take a moment every now and then to appreciate the outcome of our time and hard work.

Believe it or not, giving yourself the occasional pat on the back is likely one the best ways to keep yourself motivated.

There are many different reasons why this takes place. Take a look at these examples…

1. Praise Feels Good

It doesn’t matter if praise comes from another person or from yourself, it still accomplishes the same thing which would be a better attitude about the challenges you are enduring. Give it a try. You will likely be surprised by how much a simple positive statement to yourself can boost your level of motivation.

2. It Increases Our Confidence

Confidence is important when it comes to being successful in many different ways, especially when it comes to maintaining motivation. When we don’t feel confident in ourselves, pushing forward can begin to feel impossible. This likely happens because many people that are not confident in their abilities begin to feel like they will not be able to reach their goals. If you don’t feel like you can reach your goals, it makes sense that you would want to through in the towel when things begin to get complicated.

Luckily, you can avoid this frame of mind by appreciating the great work you can do. This will show you that you are capable of reaching the finish line which will lead to a large boost in your motivation.

3. It Leads To Happiness

Happiness is important when it comes to anything we do. If we aren’t happy, it’s only a matter of time until our productivity as well as our quality of work begins to slide down a slippery slope. Gifting yourself with the occasional “good job” is a simple and effective way to keep yourself happy which will also help you keep yourself motivated.
