Setting goals for ourselves is great for our lives. After all, it provides us with direction, purpose and the satisfaction of getting something done. However, sometimes it is much easier to set goals than it is to actually carry them out.

This doesn’t mean that you are setting the wrong goals but may rather mean that you are lacking motivation which is an essential factor for success.

The ability to motivate ourselves is of utmost importance when it comes to new accomplishments in our lives, especially those that are time consuming and require a great deal of effort.

Believe it or not, with motivation, anything is possible. I’m sure you have already accomplished some amazing things in your life with the power of it. Take learning to walk, talk and read for example. Surely these are not things you learned overnight. However, you saw something you wanted and determined there was nothing that was going to be able to stop you.

If we have the power to accomplish such amazing things when we are so young, think of the amazing things we could do with our lives now that we are grown. There really is no limit, a goal conceived can be achieved!

But, approaching a goal without motivation is almost surely a recipe for disaster. Often times, lack of motivation leads to procrastination and we all know what procrastination leads to. Nothing!

If you have been having an issue with summoning motivation for some of your goals, don’t worry. Just as a dying fire can be rekindled our motivation can once again be ignited.

1. Remember Why You Set The Goal

All too often people become overly focused on the task itself as well as the work and time it is taking instead of what rewards they will reap at the end of their efforts. Needless to say, this usually does not inspire motivation.

On the other hand, those who are able to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel are usually the ones that create the motivation needed to keep pushing forward.

2. Reward Yourself

As human beings, we like to be rewarded for our actions. There is nothing wrong with this, after all it is completely natural. This is great because it provides people with a way to motivate themselves through the use of rewards.

Create milestones and make sure to reward yourself for your efforts once you meet these milestones. It doesn’t have to be anything big or extravagant. Just make it something that says, good job!

3. Understand That Baby Steps Are Still Progress

Even the smallest of steps forward are still progress being made toward achieving our goals. Don’t allow yourself to become completely discouraged if things take longer than you anticipated. Instead, remain strong and keep reaching for the goal that you are trying to achieve. Sooner or later, it will be within your grasp!

These tips may seem simple but that does not mean that they are any less effective than more difficult methods. As a matter of fact, sometimes it’s the simplest approaches to some of life’s problems that work the best.
