Have you ever tried to accomplish something that you weren’t motivated to do? If you have, the chances are likely that it felt like you were fighting a losing battle. Many people feel like they are trying to push a huge boulder up a steep slope when their motivation fades away. Surely, this is something that people would be more than happy to be able to avoid.

Life is full of ups and downs. Unfortunately, many of us experience more downs than ups, at least it can feel that way. With so many downs, it can feel impossible at times to maintain motivation. However, while it may not necessarily be the easiest thing to do, it is definitely something that can be achieved with effort.

The best place to begin when it comes to maintaining motivation is learning what some of the factors are that lead to a lack of it. There are many different things in life that can tear a person’s motivation down rather quickly, especially during tough times.

You can’t always avoid these things. However, you can avoid some of them and you can also deal with the things you cannot avoid in a positive way.

One of the most common things that dwindle a person’s motivation away is the inability to let go of the past as well as any regret that may go along with it. I meet a lot of people who still beat themselves up for things that they did long ago. It’s ok to feel bad for a while after making a mistake. However, there has to come a point that a person decides to let go of these mistakes and move on, at least if they want to maintain their motivation and move forward in life.

Pride is another thing that can cause a person to lose their motivation. Pride can be a good thing when it is used correctly. However, it can also be something that holds people back when it is used improperly. Often times, people with too much pride refuse to ask for help when help is needed. This often causes them to encounter an overwhelming amount of challenges which eventually leads to them losing their motivation. Never be afraid to ask for help.

There is another common cause of a lack of motivation that I would like to quickly go over. Believe it or not, self-esteem and self-worth have a lot to do with how well a person is able to remain motivated. Basically, if you don’t feel good about yourself, you’re not going to believe that you deserve the things you want in life. If you don’t feel like you deserve what you want, the chances of you taking the steps needed to make these things happen are rather slim. Learn to believe in and love yourself. You are a good person and you deserve a good life!

If you can avoid these three risk factors for a lack of motivation, the chances of your success will be much higher. Remember, you have the power to do anything you set your mind to. The trick is getting your head in the game and focusing on the prize at the end of the road. Motivation is the tool that will help you do this.
