positive-thinking-bHow many times have you found yourself in a situation where you passed up a great opportunity or regretted something due to doubting yourself? In all honesty, most people would say quite a few times. So the question is, why does this happen? After all, we all want the best life has to offer, so why do some of us spend some much time self-sabotaging?

Negative thoughts and doubts can stem from a variety of sources. Some of us may have picked them up as a child while others may have developed them well into adulthood. Often times these negative thoughts arise from situations of previous failure or negative input from others, whether intentional or not.

The problem with having these thoughts is the fact that they have a tendency of holding people back in life and not allowing them to live up to their full potential. Those who have any form of previous success in their life, whether it be a good grade at school or a promotion at work, know that it requires pushing yourself a little beyond your normal comfort zone. Trying to do this with negative thoughts or filled with doubt will make it a nearly impossible task.

A perfect example of negative thoughts holding someone back would be a person on a game show. We have all seen it before; someone chooses the correct answer at first then suddenly doubts their self as the host questions their answer. The person will usually change their correct answer to one that causes them to lose the game along with their $500,000 prize. Ouch!

For some reason it is important for us to care about what others think of us, so much so that we allow it to affect our level of confidence as well as belief in ourselves. We can even get to the point that we doubt ourselves when it comes to the simplest of tasks. It only makes sense that this type of mindset can only be toxic to our lives. So the question is, what can we do in order to create a more positive and inspirational mindset?

You may want to consider starting off by determining what the roots of some of your negative thoughts are. Are they from external influences or did they come from within? Is there any sort of truth to these thoughts or are they false? To help you answer these questions, try writing out a list with all of your negative thoughts and doubts as well as their source and their level of credibility. Surely this will help you to see that most of, if not all of those thoughts, are not true!

After making this list you may also want to consider making another list that contains all of your biggest achievements. Also make sure to list out the negative thoughts or doubts you may have had before each of those achievements. This will help you gain confidence in yourself and prove to yourself that you are a winner and that you can be successful! On top of that, you may even see a few similarities in your past negative thoughts which will further prove that they are false.

Another approach that you may want to take is trying all sorts of new things. Even if you do not think that you may be good at something, try it anyways. With this it is of course best to start small because you should never do anything that may put yourself or someone else in danger. For instance, you may not want to try skydiving by yourself if you have never done it before. The more new things you try, the more new talents and skills you will discover. Each one of these newly discovered talents and skills can be used as barriers to block negative thoughts out of your mind.

Keep in mind, there will be the occasional negative thought that enters your mind, no matter what you do, it’s human nature. What you do with the negative thought is what counts. People who find themselves in successful positions in life tend to be the people who ignore or replace negative thoughts while people who acknowledge and entertain these thoughts tend to find themselves in a much different position in life.

So, do you want to live a life full of abundance, personal confidence and success or one ruled by doubt and negative thinking? If you want the best life has to offer, which I am sure you do, you need to believe in yourself and get rid of those negative thoughts. You are the only one that can do it. Trust me, if I could get rid of your negative thoughts for you, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately though, I cannot. However, the power is inside you and every step you take toward changing your mindset will be another step toward a blessed life!
